Lingerie Review: Playful Promises Miranda Peep-Hole Bra & Ouvert Brief

The Playful Promises* summer sale recently ended, which means it’s time to show off some new goodies! The Miranda Absinthe bra and ouvert brief were on sale for just £15 each, and while originally I had been eyeing the set in black and ivory*, I couldn’t turn down a price like that. At first I was a little skeptical of the set in this colour, but I’m happily surprised by how much I love it!

Appearance: 8/10

I chose the ouvert Miranda brief over the standard one because I wanted it to match the peek-a-boo theme of the bra. The openings on both the bra and briefs are super fun, and not at all subtle – there’s nothing coy about this set!

The lighting in the photos on the Playful Promises website makes the exact colour difficult to determine. I expected the set to be more of a light blue, while it’s actually a pale, electric mint green. Though not exactly what I had anticipated, the absinthe green is intriguing, and the more I wear this set, the more I love the way it looks.

Construction: 10/10

One of my favorite bra styles is unlined and unpadded with underwire. It creates a lovely combination of comfort and support. The Miranda Absinthe Peep-Hole bra embodies this style perfectly. It’s from Playful Promises’ DD-G fuller bust collection, and keeping in mind the need for extra support for larger sizes, the straps are slightly thicker than on the average bra. The underwire contributes to the shape and support, and the mesh fabric is breathable and light. After a few wears, the set appears to be high quality.

I may confine these briefs exclusively to the bedroom, but the bra is comfortable enough that, with the right layering, I would wear it out during the day as well.

Fit: Bra: 10/10, Briefs: 7/10

If this bra is any indication, Playful Promises excels in the DD+ range. I ordered my normal bra size, a 32E, and it fits perfectly. There’s no squeezing or gapping against the skin, and it provides a small lift while keeping a natural shape.

Unfortunately, the briefs didn’t work out quite as well. They fit true to size around the hips, but the ouvert middle is awkward. It’s too wide for my body, so it hangs strangely and bunches a little near the front and rear of the opening.

It’s also pertinent to note that, unlike some of the more subtle ouvert knickers I own, the opening on the Miranda brief is quite obvious when worn, as it covers the majority of the knicker. It’s very dramatic, which can be perfect for the right occasion!

My overall advice on the briefs would be to take into account how large the opening is. If you’re petite like me, it may be too wide for your hips. Either stick with the standard Miranda briefs or be prepared to return them if necessary. Despite the imperfect fit, I do like the briefs and I am keeping them.

Value for Money: 10/10

I bought this set for £30 total, which was a steal! One great thing about Playful Promises is that they have a few major sales a year, so as long as you’re willing to wait you can grab pieces for a huge discount, often less than half their normal price. I also found a coupon for free international shipping online, which cut the cost even further.

I probably wouldn’t have bought this set at full price, as both the style and colour are slightly unusual for my tastes. However, if you love these pieces, even at full price they’re not a bad deal. It’s a comfortable set of good quality, it’s fun, and it’s full of surprises!

Would I Recommend?

Yes! Playful Promises’ DD+ bras are a touchstone for anyone in that size range. I’ll certainly be buying more from them in the future.

Did you order anything during the Playful Promises* summer sale? Has anyone else had strange experiences with the fit of ouvert knickers?

Eliza.
