You all know I love a beautiful robe; it’s something about the indulgence of wearing something so extravagant, as spectacular as an evening gown, but doing it just for yourself, at home. A robe is so easy to throw on, and so comfortable, yet it makes even the most mundane of days feel a little bit magical.
Your hair might not be done, your makeup might not be done, you might only be wearing something ‘normal’ below it. But in a long and luxurious robe, it’s impossible not to feel glamorous.
Luxury loungewear brand Bocan understands that, too. That’s why they created a whole line of beautiful, lavishly-detailed maternity dress clothes specifically to bring elegance and femininity to pregnancy and new motherhood, in a way that feels effortless and achieveable when you’re probably also feeling exhausted.
The fabrics are soft, the relaxed and flowing cuts are very forgiving, and the garments have been designed with practical concerns in mind too: zip fronts, button fronts and drop-down buttoned shoulders feature on many of the styles (and many classic gowns can be made with buttons on request) to allow for easy breastfeeding or skin-to-skin contact.
Bocan was founded in Bursa, Turkey in 2013 by Ayşe Bocan and her daughters Ecem and Melike. Descended from a long line of textile traders, Ayşe inherited a passion for fine-quality fabrics and decided to source hers only from local Bursa fabric mills. All natural or certified sustainable, they include ultra-light cotton voiles, soft combed cottons, airy viscose rayons and pure-viscose laces, breathable linens, plush Aegean cotton towelling (for the softest-looking of bathrobes), and fluid silk satins.
The loungewear itself is all made locally too, in Bocan’s family-owned atelier in the same region of Turkey. Pieces are produced in small numbers only, or custom-made – allowing for modifications such as the addition of a buttoned neckline previously mentioned.
Bocan’s maternity edit is priced from £325 / $509 to £1,500 / $2,346, and includes both separate pieces and matching robe sets. Sizes run from XS/S to XL/2XL; made to measure is also an option. They’re investment pieces for sure, but unlike some maternity clothes, you can keep on wearing these beautiful nightgowns, pyjamas and robes long after the birth of your little one!
What do you think of these luxury maternity loungewear designs? Did you, or will you, treat yourself to something special to celebrate new motherhood in style?
