Psst, many of these items are now sold out so click here for the upated list. Not only is it more recent, I discovered some new brands and think you’ll love the styles even better!
As a society, we take issue with seeing any hint of a woman’s underwear in public, yet when it comes to swimwear smaller always seems to be better. Dresses come in all shapes from mini to maxi, but swimsuits? On the high-street at least, it can seem like your options are limited to bra-style bikinis and tankinis, or swimsuits with low-cut necklines or plunging backs. So where do you go if you are looking for something more conservative?
There are plenty of reasons to choose a modest swimsuit, and it’s not always about religious beliefs (though that is of course a perfectly valid reason). Fuller-coverage swimwear protects more of your skin from the sun, so may be worth looking into if you’re prone to burning. You may feel more confident and comfortable in a swimsuit that’s less revealing, want something secure for beach sports like surfing or volleyball, or simply like the way it looks! Whatever your reasons, it’s entirely your choice how much of your body you show or don’t show to the public.
Luckily there are a number of indie designers and niche brands catering to those who want a less revealing option for the beach or swimming pool, and I’ve listed 35 options here that show there’s absolutely no need to compromise on style for modesty.
‘Modest’ will of course mean different things to different people, so I’ve researched styles including high necks/backs, longer leg lines and loose fits. From bikinis to burkinis, I’ve ordered the list (more or less) from least to most coverage, so scroll on down to find what suits you best!
I hope you’ve found this list useful! Do you know of any other brands producing swimwear that’s more modest than the norm?
