My desire for warmth and comfort is greater than ever at this time of the year. Wool, cashmere and thick cotton fabrics are having a moment in my weekly rotation. While we often think of such fabrics as material for outerwear, there are a growing number of options for lingerie meant to protect us from the bite of the cold.

Despite the recent transition from breezy dresses to cosy sweaters, this festive time also calls for strapless solutions and glamorous gowns… and when looking for a beautiful gown for an event, I often turn to my favourite lingerie brands for inspiration.

Many independent designers and smaller brands are happy to take on custom orders. A rare few however are also willing to work with other brands to create a set that will actually fit your body type. The beauty of such collaborations resides in the fact that not every brand specialises in the same aspect of lingerie.

One thing I do not personally appreciate is constantly looking for ways to hide my bra straps and band. So, what if I told you that some designers have created bra bands and straps that are meant to be showcased as fashion statements within your outfits?

There are many misconceptions about the fabrics and materials used in the making of lingerie. One is that lace is itchy and meant only for the bedroom. Another is the confusion between embroidery and lace. Let’s clarify some of these concepts.

It is now possible to find relatively breathable-feeling synthetic fabrics. These are frequently more hydrophobic than actually breathable, but they can sometimes be comfortable and suitable for the hot weather. However, I’d argue that natural fibres are often the best initiative.

When it comes to accessorising with and styling lingerie as outerwear, I often hear people say that they aren’t comfortable getting creative. But as much as we love a daring outfit, there are also subtler ways to integrate lingerie into outfits on a regular basis.

Their flexible size range covers UK 6-18 and 30B-38G, the concept being that one size covers 3 to 4 sister sizes thanks to adjustable back straps.
