In the past few years, demands that have long been made for greater diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry have just begun to be met. Thanks to activist efforts, including the Buy Black movement that gained a lot of traction in 2020, brands that had previously been overlooked are finally getting the recognition they deserve. And more than ever before, companies have started to hire models with various body types, abilities, gender expressions, races and ethnicities. Finally, it’s possible to find comfortable, sexy, and empowering lingerie that caters to all bodies.

But even with the push to promote Black lingerie designers and to make the industry more accessible for all people, other areas of the lingerie world are lagging behind. While it’s easy to find nude lingerie in the colour beige from almost any popular lingerie retailer or boutique, darker skin tones are still underrepresented. Many of the most popular lingerie brands on the market, especially the major heritage brands that have been around for years, have been slow to offer lingerie in varying shades of nude. This can be even harder to find for people who need fuller bust or plus-sized selections.

While it can still be challenging to find darker nude shades at your local boutique or chain store, a lot has changed over the past several years. As you’ll see below, there are more brands than ever before offering lingerie in a diverse array of skin tone shades.

Here are 15 lingerie brands that offer nude options for Black and brown skin tones:

Ihuoma

IHUOMA is a luxury lingerie brand that celebrates the inherent beauty of Black women. Their debut collection, Divine Feminine, was developed around darker nude tones and uses silk, French tulle, gold accents, and delicate embroidery to create truly stunning products. Designs such as the three-piece Divine Feminine Longline Bra, Embroidered Thong and Suspender are a stunning standout among the basic nude styles that are much more prevalent in the market today.

Nubian Skin

Nubian Skin offers a variety of hosiery and lingerie in 4 shades of nude, with styles from organic cotton bralettes to unlined bras and T-shirt bras. I especially love the variability of the Plumetis Bodysuit, which can be worn day-to-night as lingerie or outerwear. Their comprehensive Foundation Matching Guide makes it easy to find your shade. Sizing is available in 30D – 40F and XS – XXL.

Marks & Spencer*

Ultra-affordable and in expanded sizes, Marks & Spencer makes buying lingerie in your shade easy. Designs such as their Wild Blooms full cup bra* (also available in an F – H cup option*) come in 5 skin tone shades. If you’re looking to stock up on the basics, they also offer value packs of low-rise briefs* in sustainably-sourced cotton.

Coutille

Coutille is a new brand focussed on luxury basics in three nude tones. Each item is ethically crafted in the EU, using elegant French lace and Italian jersey. They offer core sizing S – L as well as bras in B – DD cup. The darker two tones, Biscotti and Amaranth, will be launching for pre-order soon so keep an eye on this brand.

Simply Be*

Simply Be offers ultra low-cost, plus-size lingerie (up to UK size 32 / 46F) that is perfect for adding basics to your wardrobe. Their skin tone products, such as the Seamless Nude Comfort Top* and Shorts*, come in six shades of nude.

SKIMS*

SKIMS has one of the most extensive collections of lingerie and loungewear for all bodies. You’ll find everything from the Bandeau Bra* to the One Shoulder Bralette* in their 9 core shades of nude. The hosiery collection* also features three styles of tights in 4 shades of nude. Sizing is available in XXS – 4XL.

Cuup

Cuup’s philosophy is to provide “everyday reverence for every body”. They offer lingerie basics such as the sheer Balconette Bra and the Highwaist Briefs in 4 nude shades. This brand is ideal for fuller busts, with bras in sizes 30A – 38H.

Nude Barre

Nude Barre features an impressive 12 shades of nude in their lingerie and hosiery collections. Trouble finding your shade? Just take the Meet Your Match Quiz! Bralettes are available in XS-XL to fit up to a UK E / US F cup, knickers are available in XS-XL, and hosiery is available to fit up to 5XL.

Gugu Intimates

Based in South Africa, Gugu Intimates prides themselves on being Africa’s first skin-coloured underwear range. They offer 5 different nude colours, and there is an option to shop by shade. If you’re not sure which one’s yours, there is a helpful guide to using your make-up shade as a reference. And good news: they’re introducing a new swimwear range on Instagram that will be available online soon. Shop sizes from S – XL and 32A – 38D.

Love, Vera

This Los Angeles-based brand is raising the bar for representation of Black women in the fashion industry. Their Nude Collection features over 80 products, from basic bralettes to 3-piece floral lace sets. Each style comes in 4 colors: Manuka Honey, Butter Toffee, Chocolate Fondant, and Dark Cocoa. Love, Vera also offers gorgerous lingerie in colours from blue to yellow, pink, purple and beyond, all modeled on Black women so you can see how they look on various skin tones. Shop sizes from XS – 4X and 32A – US 44DDD / UK 44E on their website.

Harper Wilde

From push-up bras to sports bras, Harper Wilde offers comfort-based lingerie with an expansive range of sizes, and in colours that include three nude options in some styles. It’s quite affordable, with bras priced between $40-$60 and bottoms between $12-$18. They’re available in sizes XS – 4XL and 32A to US 42F / UK 42E.

Evelyn & Bobbie

Evelyn & Bobbie combine support and comfort in two styles of bra: the Beyond Bra without wires, and the Defy Bra without wires or hardware. They come in three ‘complexion matching’ colours called Clay, Mica, and Sand, plus a pinkish-beige colour called Himalayan Salt. Matching knickers such as the High-Waisted Thong are also available.

Bianca Miller London

British-based brand Bianca Miller is redefining nude with 8 shades of their signature nude hosiery. Like others, they offer a simple to follow chart to match your make-up shade to their selection of colours.

Proclaim

Proclaim is an eco-friendly and inclusive brand based in Los Angeles. The Everyday Collection comes in 4 shades of nude. Products range from the Slip Dress to the Square Neck Bralette, and sizes from S – 3XL.

miinu

American brand miinu focuses on celebrating communities of colour, and their mission is to offer staple pieces that will withstand the test of time. Their accessories-focused Intimates Collection offers pasties and body tape in 7 shades of nude, and convertible adhesive bras in 4 shades.

Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive. The great news is that there are so many brands that now offer at least a few products in their collection in multiple shades of nude (such as Thistle and Spire*, Natori*, Third Love* and Boody* to name just a few). It would be impossible to include everything, but I hope you’ve discovered some amazing new brands on this list!

So I would love to hear from you: What are your favourite brands that offer a variety of nude shades? Do you know of any other lingerie brands that belong on this list? Leave a comment below!
