As someone who works day-in, day-out in the lingerie industry, I see a lot of underwear that looks very much the same. But part of the reason I stay so interested is that about once a year or so, I’ll stumble across an independent brand that’s just so utterly and refreshingly different. This year, it’s Elyse On Mars.

Created by Karolina Kobets, JTM Noir Lingerie focusses primarily on satin robes, though they also offer nightgowns and pyjamas and have a small range of linen pieces. Some designs tend towards a fairly minimal look, but it’s the swishy, lace-trimmed garments where the brand’s decadent vision truly shines.

Looking at Helen Valk Varavin’s designs is like peering into a lush fairytale. There is definitely something magical about these luxe underthings, which are often named after famous mythological women and are designed “with modern goddesses in mind”.

Rapture and Repent immediately caught my eye for its darkly original, fetish-inspired designs. The designer, Monika Cibulskis, first started selling lingerie and accessories while studying fashion at Ryerson University in Canada.

This was absolutely one of those love-at-first-sight impulse purchases, and I’m happy to say I don’t regret it. It ticks two of my biggest lingerie style boxes: unusual texture and vibrant green. It was incredibly budget-friendly too, at just $35 (about £26 or 31€).

Some lingerie-themed-but-not-actual-lingerie ideas. A great way to treat the lingerista in your life when you’re unsure of their size or preferred style! Many of them are also budget-friendly (prices start from around £5) so they’re perfect as stocking fillers or for Secrets Santas too.
