Earlier this year when I redesigned the website I wrote a little bit about how I got into blogging, and it was never really something I expected or planned to do. I spent the first 20 years of my life intending to become a teacher of all things, until I realised I didn’t actually like teaching and began a career in marketing instead.
It turns out though, I really enjoy writing. I was hooked on reading as a teen and even wrote a fantasy novel once (not one I’ve ever tried to get published) so maybe it’s not such a surprise. But still, even when I wrote that blog post a little over 2 months ago, I didn’t have any immediate plans to quit my job and do this full time – it’s been a rather sudden decision!
Primarily, I left my job because they relocated somewhere less convenient and more expensive for me to get to. I’d planned to find something else but scrolling through endless job descriptions, the ‘right’ role just never seemed to materialise. So I decided to hand my notice in anyway and maybe take a month or two out whilst I kept looking, focussing on Esty Lingerie in the meantime. But as my last day drew nearer I got more and more excited about the prospect of running this little business of mine full time, and I realised that this is really what I want to do. This is my dream job.
I’m not ‘going full time’ because I’m suddenly making a ton of money. I make some, yes, but significantly less than I was earning in my marketing job. No office job means no need to spend £700+ on nursery fees each month though, so there’s that. Speaking of which, that’s another reason for this decision – my son will start school in around 18 months and I don’t know if I’m going to have any more kids, so I’d like to enjoy this time with him whilst it’s still an option. Teaching him to swim and baking cakes together and all those mum-son activities I’ve never had the time for before.
Of course, I’m looking forward to having more time to blog and sew too. I feel like I’ve barely sewn a thing so far this year; I literally can’t remember when I last touched my sewing machine, it’s been months to say the least. My plan now is to get some sewing done every few days, so there will be a lot of new stuff coming to the shop very soon. More time to write also means plenty more posts here for you to read. Yay!
And finally, I am now offering social media and digital marketing services exclusively for the lingerie industry, in addition to the freelance writing I’ve been dabbling with since last year.
Check out my list of freelance services for lingerie brands here.
I don’t know if this will be forever. In the end, it will all boil down to money – a girl’s gotta be able to pay her mortgage after all, and buy fancy knickers. It was daunting leaving behind a job I’ve had for over 5 years – and the steady income that came with that – but I’m so super excited to see what I can make of Esty Lingerie when I put all of my time and energy into it, and can’t wait to see what the rest of 2017 holds!
Thank you to all of my lovely, lovely readers who’ve made this possible, and if you’re a newbie around here be sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter so you never miss a new post.
