Have you ever wondered how designers choose to work with different types of embellishments, or why they choose particular fabrics? Over the last year, we sat down with the designers of four stunning brands to learn more about their use of embroidery in particular.

There are many misconceptions about the fabrics and materials used in the making of lingerie. One is that lace is itchy and meant only for the bedroom. Another is the confusion between embroidery and lace. Let’s clarify some of these concepts.

I am once again bringing you some beaded lusciousness by Love & Swans. I’ve been obsessed with this brand from day one, and every time they release something new I find myself saying “I think this is my favourite yet”. And you know what? I really do think this latest bralette design is my favourite yet!

Allow me to introduce you to what I’m already positive will be one of my very favourite collections of the Autumn/Winter 2021 season: Regalia by Studio Pia. It’s inspired by “the decadence and lavish excess of royal court dressing” and, as ever, is centered around some incredible bespoke embroideries.

As always, I am blown away by the level of detail in this Love & Swans lingerie set. What may from a distance appear to be a print is actually an embroidery, which gives it a wonderful depth of texture when seen up close. On top of all this is that other signature design element of this brand: lavish hand-beading.

Online retailer Lovehoney keeps on upping its lingerie game with its in-house collection, with each season bringing ever-more stylish, eye-catching and trend-focussed designs to lust after. And their latest release, the Captivate range, may just be my favourite Lovehoney offering of all time.

Astrological-inspired lingerie continues to be a trend, and Love & Swans’ latest set takes the theme to a luxurious new level. Named Cygnus, the set is made from midnight-blue mesh that is lavishly embellished with a celestial array of stars and clustered constellations.

Have you ever been so excited to receive a parcel that instead of tearing into it the moment it arrived, you actually waited a day or two, because you wanted to savour the anticipation of knowing you were about to unwrap something truly special? That’s how I felt when my Love & Swans package arrived.

My absolute favourite thing about Instagram is how often I discover new lingerie brands over there, and Love & Swans is one such treasure that made its way onto my feed shortly after its February launch. I was instantly besotted with their beaded embroideries.

Lately, a desire for visible branding has reached the world of lingerie. Influenced by both the rise of sporty, athleisure-wear and the 90s fashion revival (think Kate Moss in Calvin Klein logo-waistband briefs), logo elastic trims are everywhere right now. But that’s not the trend that this article is about.
