Lingerie Review: Sapphire Bliss Audrey Kiss Chemise & Sasha Goddess Slip

by Estelle Puleston

Disclaimer: I bought these items with my own money and Sapphire Bliss did not request a review.

As I mentioned in my recent Mimi Holliday Raspberry Ripple review, I’ve fallen head over heels for silk slips! These two by independent, made-in-New-York brand Sapphire Bliss are items I’ve been repeatedly adding to my basket and then abandoning since June-time when they first went on sale. I thought they were beautiful, but the $30 shipping cost was putting me off (especially as I’d originally only intended to get the one) and I wasn’t all that sure I’d actually wear them.

Then the stars aligned for me and all in one day, I tried on my Mimi slip and realised I needed more silk slips in my life, Sapphire Bliss sent a newsletter with a ‘25% off $100 spend’ offer in it, and I noticed that together these two pieces totaled $101. You could say it was fate!

Shipping was very fast from the States – no more than a week if I remember correctly – and they arrived wrapped in tissue paper with a branded Sapphire Bliss ribbon.

Appearance

The Audrey Kiss chemise is the more ‘practical’ option of the two, mostly made from silk charmeuse with a wide trim of eyelash lace atop the cups and at the back. By practical, I suppose I mean modest – it’s ideal to line sheer clothing and add a touch more warmth to your outfit in winter, and you could even get away with pairing this with a skirt and pretending it’s a camisole.

I particularly like the back of the Audrey Kiss with its keyhole and flat bow – so often the back of lingerie gets neglected, but this looks as chic there as it does at the front.

The Sasha Goddess slip on the other hand is definitely designed much more with the boudoir in mind – it’s 2″ shorter and slashed right to the top of the thigh on one side, and the front is entirely sheer lace down to below the navel.

I love the way the lace has been appliquéd on to retain its scalloped shape not only on the front, but up the sides too – it’s an unexpected little detail that really sets this apart visually from cheaper slips.

Verdict: 9 / 10 for both

Construction

Both pieces are made from a combination of soft silk charmeuse and nylon eyelash lace which is wonderfully soft and comfortable to wear – the type of comfortable where you don’t even notice you’re wearing it. The silk hemlines on both are rolled over for a neat finish that won’t fray, and the stitching everywhere is tiny and perfect.

I have one teeny, tiny niggle with the Sasha Goddess slip which is that the scalloped lace edging on the cups is constantly folding over, and that kind of detracts from the look. A thin band of straight silicone is used to help keep the cup edges in place – if this had been sewn on in a gentle ‘M’ shape to follow the curve of the lace, I think it would secure them better.

Verdict: 10 / 10 for the Audrey Kiss, 9 / 10 for the Sasha Goddess

Fit

According to Sapphire Bliss’ size chart I’m an XS (UK 6-8) which is what I bought in the Audrey Kiss – the Sasha Goddess was sold out in my size so I went for a S.

The Audrey Kiss chemise fits me like a dream – the cups fit well (with some spare room for anyone larger than a 30E/32DD) and stay in place all day long, and although this is longer on little me than on the model, it’s perfect for wearing with my skirts and dresses which are mostly knee-length or just above.

The Sasha Goddess slip also fits me quite well, although in the lace fabric the cups don’t stay in place at all and end up sitting on top of my boobs – but again, this is more of a boudoir piece and not really intended for all day wear, so it’s not the end of the world.

Verdict: 10 / 10 for the Audrey Kiss, 7 / 10 for the Sasha Goddess

Durability

Both pieces are hand wash only in cool water, given the silk and delicate lace. As with everything else silk I’ve ever owned, they love to wrinkle and take some TLC to keep looking smooth and perfect.

Originally, I’d planned to hang these in my wardrobe as I’ve completely run out of lingerie drawer space, but having seen the Sasha Goddess slip up close I wouldn’t dare; the straps on this one are made from an absolute whisper of delicate lace. However, I’ve worn and washed both slips multiple times, including wearing them to sleep in, and they’re in perfect condition thus far!

Verdict: 8 / 10 for the Audrey Kiss, 6 / 10 for the Sasha Goddess

Value for Money

The RRPs of these slips are $168 (~£114) for the Audrey Kiss chemise, and $148 (~£100) for the Sasha Goddess slip. On sale, they’re significantly reduced to $52 (~£35) and $49 (~£33) respectively, and I feel incredibly lucky to have got them with an extra 25% discount on top of that – it basically covered the international shipping cost for me!

Even at full price, I’d say these are both excellent value for money – prices are on par with other, simpler silk slips and the fabric and construction quality is fantastic. On sale, I think you’d be crazy not to buy them.

Verdict: 10 / 10 for both

Final Thoughts

I’m so glad I finally got round to buying these, and I can highly recommend them both. If you’re looking for something to wear during the day and which is a tad more sturdy, go for the Audrey Kiss. If you just want to indulge in a beautiful little something for occasional wear, buy whichever takes your fancy!

The Audrey Kiss chemise is available here, and the Sasha Goddess here – both left in size Small only.

Which of these silk slips is your favourite? Have you bought anything from Sapphire Bliss before?
